In 2014, The Sandbox Collective embarked on a theatrical journey that has since captivated Manila’s audiences. Now, as the company marks its 10th Year Anniversary in the theater industry, it proudly unveils the 2024 Season, centered around the themes of coming of age and rediscovery.
Fresh from the success of comeback productions like Sandbox Fest 2023, featuring Lungs and Every Brilliant Thing, and Bawat Bonggang Bagay, The Sandbox Collective is gearing up for its most thrilling season yet. This season pays homage to the company’s journey and continuous rediscovery, featuring shows that delve into growing pains, milestones, finding one’s voice in society, and grappling with life’s profound questions.
Kicking off the pandemonium in February 2024 is the award-winning Broadway musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” Directed by renowned actress and director Missy Maramara, with assistant director Dingdong Rosales and musical director Rony Fortich, this production promises a fast-paced, wildly funny, and touching experience. Catch it from February to March 2024 at PowerMac Center Spotlight Theater, Circuit Makati.
Later in 2024, The Sandbox Collective brings back the wickedly hilarious sci-fi smash hit, “Little Shop of Horrors.” Directed by Managing Artistic Director Toff De Venecia, with musical direction by award-winning composer Ejay Yatco, this charmingly tongue-in-cheek comedy will run from July to August 2024 at the Globe Auditorium, Maybank Performing Arts Theater, BGC.
Closing the year is the Manila premiere of “Tiny Beautiful Things,” based on Cheryl Strayed’s bestselling book and adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos. Directed by Gawad Buhay award-winning director Jenny Jamora, this play explores reaching when you’re stuck, healing when you’re broken, and finding the courage to face unanswerable questions. Catch it for a limited 3-week engagement in November 2024 at the Zobel De Ayala Recital Hall, Maybank Performing Arts Theater, BGC.
