After earning accolades as one of the Best Filipino Theaters in 2023, Prinsipe Bahaghari by Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas is set to grace the stage at Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater, Circuit Makati, from January 19-21 and 26-28, 2024.
Prinsipe Bahaghari is a Filipino puppetry adaptation of the beloved modern classic The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. This enchanting puppet play follows the Rainbow Prince on a quest for a companion to care for his Gumamela flower on his home planet. Throughout his journey, he encounters extraordinary characters and forms a friendship with the Storyteller, sharing joys and hardships. The play, rooted in Filipino culture, myths, and language, celebrates the magic of growing up and the diverse forms of love.
The production showcases traditional Filipino craftsmanship, with puppets crafted from rattan and the use of local materials in production.
Playwright Vladimeir Gonzales emphasizes, “The use of Filipino language and stories narrates the magic and challenges of growing up, of taking care of this world, and of faith in different forms of love.”
Having garnered acclaim since its inception, Prinsipe Bahaghari debuted in November 2023 at the Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Teatro Papet Museo. It received international recognition at the 14th Annual Meeting and International Conference of the Asian Theatre Working Group in 2022 and the Puppet Power 2022: Celebration! in Calgary, Canada.
Noteworthy achievements include being a finalist at The Red Curtain International’s Good Theatre Festival for Young Audiences in India, where it received awards for Best Direction, Best Production, Best Production Design, and an honorable mention for Best Script.
The talented teams behind the production include Vladimeir Gonzales (Playwright), Aina Ramolete (Director & Overall Production Designer), and various other creative minds.
