PURSUANT to the Cultural Center of the Philippines\u2019 mandate to cultivate and enhance public interest in, and appreciation of the various arts including but not limited to the performing arts throughout the country, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing at the Ormoc City Sky Dome in Leyte on October 16 at 7 pm. \u00a0The concert is free to the public.<\/p>\n

Billed as Brilyante: An Evening with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra,<\/strong>\u00a0the PPO will treat the Ormocanons to a night of music with Georges Bizet\u2019s \u2018Les Toreadors\u2019 from Carmen suite no.1 and Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky\u2019s \u2018Danse of Reed Flutes\u2019 from The Nutcracker Suite. \u00a0They will also be performing Johann Strauss Jr.\u2019s \u2018On the Beautiful Blue Danube Waltz\u2019, Arturo Marquez\u2019s \u2018Danzon No. 2\u2019, Leroy Anderson\u2019s \u2018Sereneta\u2019, and Franck Porcel and Paul Mauriat\u2019s \u2018I Will Follow Him\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Nightingales will be the guest performers at the concert.<\/p>\n

PPO will also perform OPM pieces including Best of Metropop, FPJ Medley, D\u2019Manila Sound, Usahay, When I Met You and Hagibis Medley.<\/p>\n

The following day, October 17, selected members of the PPO will conduct simultaneous masterclasses for Woodwinds, Brasses, and Percussion instruments at the Ormoc Multi-Purpose Hall at 10 am. \u00a0On the same day, the PPO will stage another performance at Robinson Ormoc Activity Area at 7 pm.<\/p>\n

Established in 1973 as an accompaniment for the performing artists at the CCP Theater, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra has become the country\u2019s leading orchestra and is widely regarded as one of the best musical ensembles in the Asia-Pacific region. It has performed with world\u2019s renowned conductors including Mendi Rodan, Piero Gamba, Enrique Batis, Sebastian Bereau and Nicholas Koch, as well as performed with the best foreign and Filipino artists such as Van Cliburn, Renata Tebaldi, Judith Engel, Anthony Camden, David Benoit, Cecile Licad, Raul Sunico and Lea Salonga.<\/p>\n

The PPO toured Europe in 2001 and consequently participated at the Asia Orchestra Week in September 2002 held at the Tokyo Opera City Hall upon the invitation of the Association of Japanese Symphony Orchestras. \u00a0The Orchestra also performed at Bangkok\u2019s National Theater in September 2004 upon the invitation of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vandhana of Thailand.<\/p>\n

This particular PPO outreach concert is made possible with the support of the City Government of Ormoc.<\/p>\n
