Films “Moral” and “Duyan ng Magiting” journey to Bulacan State University to provide a unique cinematic experience to young students and film enthusiasts as the CCP Lakbay Sine and Cine Icon will have special screenings of the classic award-winning film by National Artists Marilou-Diaz Abaya and Ricky Lee and the 2023 Cinemalaya Best Ensemble Acting awardee.

The free special screenings are slated on April 24, at the Valencia Hall, Bulacan State University in Malolos City, Bulacan. Duyan ng Magiting will be screened at 8:30 am, while Moral screening is scheduled at 1:30 pm.

Launched in 2023, CCP Cine Icons is a special program of the CCP Film, Broadcast, and New Media Division (CCP FBNMD) which aims to honor the life and works of National Artists and Gawad CCP Para sa Sining awardees.

Directed by National Artist Diaz-Abaya, with screenplay by National Artist Lee, Moral is a loosely structured film tracing the lives of four friends. The four women are authentically portrayed as real people set against the social, political, and economic milieu of 1979-1982. The Filipino woman is shown not as a victim but a shaper of her own destiny.

Moral won the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards for Best Supporting Actress for Sandy Andolong and Best Supporting Actor for Juan Rodrigo. It was cited as the 2nd Best Picture at the 1982 Metro Manila Film Festival where it won the Best Screenplay award.

CCP’s Lakbay Sine is an outreach program that brings different film projects to different regions, partner communities, organizations, and campuses primarily to popularize the works of Filipino filmmakers and encourage film appreciation among the youth and the general public.

Duyan ng Magiting features a collection of interwoven stories about life and violence in the Philippines. It gives a peek into the lives of a college professor, a university chancellor, a social worker, a police chief, two students, two mothers, and a lawyer.

Written and directed by Dustin Celestino, the film won the Special Jury Prize and Best Ensemble Acting award at the 2023 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

A talkback will follow after the film screenings, with writer-director Celestino, producer Janel Gutierrez, and National Artist Ricky Lee.
