For the first time in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, Ateneo Blue Repertory presents its 33rd Season Newbie Production, The PROM. Experience this hit musical at the Ateneo de Manila University this November 2024, brought to you by the company behind award-winning productions such as Zsazsa Zaturnnah The Musical… ‘Yun Lang!, RENT, Next to Normal, and Spring Awakening.

Originally staged on Broadway in 2018 and adapted for Netflix in 2020, The PROM follows four Broadway stars who journey to a small town in Indiana, hoping to restore their reputations. Their path crosses with Emma Nolan, a young girl determined to attend her high school prom with her girlfriend.

The musical’s themes of love, hope, and unapologetic queer acceptance resonate with the ongoing movement in the Philippines to pass the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill. blueREP takes the stage to inspire today’s queer community to claim their rightful place in society.

The production is helmed by an accomplished artistic team, led by Director Abi Sulit (known for Atlantis Production’s Working: The Musical (2022), blueREP’s The Theory of Relativity (2019), Bring It On (2019), and We Aren’t Kids Anymore (2021)), and Musical Director Maia Dapul (notable for Orphie and the Book of Heroes (2024) and Party Worth Crashing (2020)). Paul Atienza makes his debut as Choreographer, adding to his recent works like The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2024) and Blueprint Ng Pag-Ibig (2024).

Joining them are Production Designer Carlos Siongco (Balete (2024), Seussical (2024)), Lighting Designer Jethro Nibaten (Bar Boys: A New Musical (2024), The Half Life of Marie Curie (2024)), Sound Designer Andy Reysio-Cruz (Mga Multo (2024), She Kills Monsters (2024)), and Brand Designer Ralf Borja (Zsazsa Zaturnnah The Musical… ‘Yun Lang! (2023)). The team also includes Intimacy Choreographer Regina De Vera, Dramaturg Timothy Racho, and Technical Director John Bermio, along with student talents Julio Velasquez as Brand Manager and Aliyah Dy as Sound Engineer (Broadway Youth Cebu’s Beauty and the Beast (2024)).

The PROM showcases blueREP’s newest performers: Andie Lopez as Emma Nolan, Celine Andrea Tam as Alyssa Greene, Khassie Cañada as Dee Dee Allen, Andre Blas as Barry Glickman, Marco Castaneda as Trent Oliver, Sabel Lamadrid as Angie Dickinson, RJ Paderayon as Tom Hawkins, and Ana Rocio Tabayoyong as Mrs. Greene.
