Dive into the captivating synergy of music and movement with the timeless masterpiece, Carmina Burana, choreographed by National Artist for Dance, Alice Reyes. Witness the dynamic rendition of Carl Orff’s beloved cantata, brought to life by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philippine Madrigal Singers, and soprano Lara Maigue. Performances will grace the Samsung Performing Arts Theater on June 14-15.
Carmina Burana, a hallmark of Alice Reyes’ repertoire, narrates the jubilant tale of life’s pleasures, expressed through vibrant and sensual movements inspired by goliardic verses. This revival promises a spectacle with live accompaniment by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philippine Madrigal Singers, featuring guest soloist Lara Maigue. Set and costume designs by the late National Artist for Theater Design, Salvador Bernal, will mesmerize audiences.
Premiered in 1975, Carmina Burana has seen multiple restagings, showcasing its enduring popularity. Alongside, Reyes’ Dugso, a tribute to the rituals of Bukidnon tribes, scored by National Artist for Music, Dr. Ramon Santos, adds cultural depth to the program, revived for a new era.
Norman Walker’s Summer’s End and Augustus ‘Bam’ Damian III’s After Whom round off the evening with romantic and daring neo-classical, modern, and contemporary ballet performances.
Presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Alice Reyes Dance Philippines, with the patronage of Senator Pia Cayetano, the production also features the Kilyawan Boys Choir and dance trainees from the University of the East’s Silanganan Dance Troupe.
Catch the magic on June 14 (7:30 PM) and June 15 (2:00 PM & 7:30 PM), accompanied live by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philippine Madrigal Singers.
